Bank Temperature

Saturday, October 30, 2004

Why is it that when I am driving and want to know what time it is, the bank clock is always showing the temperature instead.

And I stare...and wait...and crane my neck to continue looking at the sign while my car is whizzing merrily along. Will the digital numbers change to the time in time, I ask myself?

Invariably, I also always ask myself...how friggin long do the bank people (or sign makers) think it takes me read "44" anyway? Since the sign is provided as a friendly service, I would think that someone would actually make it
f-r-i-e-n-d-l-y. Maybe they want me to stop and stand outside of their bank to see the time; or I could drive around the block a few times to increase my chances...and waste precious time.

Best scenario: Leave the blasted thing on the temperature, and blare the time out by loudspeaker so I can keep my eyes on the road.

Don't Ever Try This at Home !

Friday, October 22, 2004

If you are over 30 (give or take), don't ever try taking an extreme close-up picture of any of your body parts. It will take me weeks to get over the trauma of seeing the veins popping out in my eye.

I have a case of insomnia.

Cosmopolitan

Sunday, October 17, 2004

I've been adding a few links. I hope you take a gander. I love culture hopping. We have oh so much in common, no matter where on earth we are. I would like this blog to be very cosmopolitan. If you have a link you would like me to add, please e-mail me.

I hope your day is a good one. I'll be busy working on my other blog this weekend. This blog is where I relax. The other is...well...more urgent. See ya!

P.S. My dog is acting more normal now. No more morning surprises.

Taste Bud Slaves

Tuesday, October 12, 2004

Last Halloween a co-worker brought in "kitty litter cake" for a unique snacking experience.

Then another co-worker brought in the guilty looking cat to supplement the look. Nobody ate the cake you see remaining in the picture since our taste buds are slaves to the brain.

I do not want to encourage anyone to harm their bodies with this sugary messy Haloween desert. So to get the recipe you will need to look it up yourself!

Bon Appetite' !

Cat Rolling and Dog Neurosis

Saturday, October 09, 2004

In the cat obit below, I mentioned that our dog tried to prevent the burial. When I tried to cover the cat's body with a cloth, she nosed it aside every time. So I just sat back and watched her. Whisper (our dog) placed her chin ever so gently on the body and looked up at me with huge sad doggie eyes. Finally, I had to insist she let us proceed. She watched the hole being filled in with dirt, and kept looking up at my husband in confusion. When the burial was complete, she pawed at the ground, but didn't dig.

Butcher was Whisper's surrogate mother when we brought the pup home at 10 weeks old. When Whisper matured, one of her favorite games was "cat rolling". Whisper would lie in wait for Butcher to be exposed in the middle of the yard, with no place to run to safety in time. Then Whisper would bolt out of her hiding place doing mach 5. When she reached Butcher, she would take her nose and roll the cat who had invariably braced for the impact by crunching herself into a ball. When the cat got too old to play, Whisper stopped. What a pair!

Ever since Butcher's death, Whisper has taken a dump in the house at night. She never used to do-do this. Are the two events related? Does she think we killed her surrogate mother? Are the dumps her method of mourning? Does she simply have an intestinal disturbance, and this is a coincidence?

I keep looking for the plug-in that allows a window of communication to occur between us. Then I remember it hasn't been invented yet. (Ponder the implications.) I have long believed communication between humans and other animals to be a possibility; but I don't know that I'll still be alive when this potential is realized. You heard it here first, folks!

In Memory of Butcher

Wednesday, October 06, 2004

Butcher died today. She was 14 - 1/2 years old. She was a fine cat and a good mouser right up to the end. She died from the complications of cancer.

Butcher was named after Susan Butcher, the musher. Born in a closet, she was the first of the litter to set off exploring. Many other cats came and went, but Butcher used every one of her nine lives...twice. For years we lovingly called her "fat cat". Her size never slowed her down. We would proudly show her off to visitors; and she never failed to bite when petted. They were love bites.

She leaves behind the humans who cared for her, and her closest friend Whisper who tried valiently to prevent Butcher's burial. I am a better person for having known such a fine cat.

Cat Toy Eggs

Sunday, October 03, 2004

Instructions:
*scramble a raw egg and place it in the microwave. A bowl is helpful.
*start the timer for 20 seconds
*peer apprehensively thru the glass every few seconds
*take the egg out of the microwave and scramble it again
*cook for another 20 seconds
*remove from microwave.

The egg is now ready to feed to your dog; or give it to your cat as a toy.

Eye Watch 1

Saturday, October 02, 2004

I've had this spot in my left eye for several months. I went to the eye doc, but he couldn't find anything. I went to my regular doc and got no answers there either. I went to a Naturopathic doc but the eye spot didn't seem to be of concern.

I decided to let things rest and just "listen" to my body to see what it has to say. The spot size has remained unchanged. But other things happen. Periodically I get "attacks", and I have written down the various complaints I have each time I am attacked by my own body. Recently, I began noticing that my brain is faltering. Now, maybe I'm just getting old. But I don't feel old (49). Sometimes I type "here" or "hear" and stare at the word trying to remember which one is correct for a particular usage. This is not normal for me.

Yesterday I tried to start the car with the house key; and when I got home I tried to open the house with the car key. Not good.

So last night before sleep I became willing to ask the dream makers what is going on with me.

I dreamt I was in a 2 story house. The sky was exposed. I heard a rumbling in the distance...and then saw the war planes. On their first run, I caught some shrapnel...but nothing serious. On the second run, we were hiding as best we could but it occurred to me that we really did not have an emergency plan. We stayed very very still and remained undetected.

I think my body is attacking me. I need to get a better plan than the one I currently have. (I exercise, eat pretty darn good, and supplement with herbs.) I need to be proactive before the war planes find me. I will go back to my regular doc and try to verbalize, once again, what I am feeling. (That process always leaves me feeling frustrated and sometimes angry.)

No matter where this goes, I will refuse radiation. I do not believe in killing one part of my body to save another. I think the brain is better than that. I think that with a positive attitude, intuitiveness, meditation, extreme healthy living for the body mind spirit...and primarily with education and the help and love of others, I can send the war planes away. What do you think?

Chit Chat about Helen

Friday, October 01, 2004

How convenient for Helen to blow at 12:01 PM...lunch time here at work. Now I don't have to act like I'm working!

I am located north of Seattle...too far to see the event by eyeball. When she erupted in 1980 I was living in the midwest, and we still saw the sky get a little darker from the dust. What is that...1500 miles? Anyway, this isn't nearly as dramatic (so far).

I'm in awe of nature's power.

Maybe I can take my digital and head south....
