Pain

Thursday, November 09, 2006

I've never had a professional massage. And yet I have a persistent back pain that interferes with my morning meditation to the point that I have thrown my arms skyward shouting,
"OH WHAT'S THE USE!!!"

I get like that sometimes.

This morning I was chatting with the local masseuse. I asked her how business was these days. Then I confessed my back pain. I told her I had always been hesitant to use massage because I didn't want to bother with a temporary solution.

pain -- relief -- more pain -- relief -- yet more pain-- and so on

sounds really frustrating

I wanted a permanent solution to my pain...and if I couldn't have that, I would just have to learn to live with it. (In my mind I'm thinking "I have no intention of throwing good money after bad.")

Then she said something that astounded me. She said, "I tell my clients to notice how long it takes for the pain to come back. After learning more about their particular pain cycle, ideally they would want to schedule their next massage a couple of days short of the cycle to remain pain free."

"Free of pain....?" I said.
OMG
I never thought of THAT.

More about pain from YouTube (suitable for all ages).
